SUSTAINABILITY

“An economy is sustainable if it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

At Quintessence, we’re committed to making our business operations as sustainable as possible. We believe that, by reducing our impact on the environment, we can make a positive contribution to our community and planet. To that end, we’ve adopted the following sustainability practices:

We Make Responsible Data Centre Choices

To be as sustainable and responsible as possible, all Quintessence hosting is with IONOS.

  • Ionos minimise their CO₂ emissions through the use of green energy. Their European and US data centres are run entirely on electricity from renewable sources and wind energy. In 2021, 99.4% of all energy used at the company’s data centres came from renewable sources except for emergency power, which was offset.

  • Their energy management systems are regularly assessed by sustainability management experts and are ISO 50001 certified.

  • Their data centres use the most modern, energy-efficient hardware. Low-power processors deliver performance and help eliminate excess heat, so they need less energy.

  • Once servers have reached the end of their service life, they are reused, recycled or disposed of appropriately.

We’re Socially Responsible

We believe we can make a positive impact on the community. We support this by:

  • We give back to the community through charitable donations and other philanthropic activities. Supported charities are chosen by members of the Quintessence team and align with the company’s values.

  • We prioritise product safety and quality to ensure our products or services do not harm end-users. This includes complying with relevant regulations and conducting quality control testing.

  • We promote diversity and inclusion in our workforce. This includes promoting equal opportunities for all employees, respecting diverse viewpoints and promoting diversity internally and in supplier networks.

We Put Thought into Our Products, Services and Supply

We strive to design products and services that improve both our sustainability performance and that of our clients. Including:

  • Optimising our supply chain with suppliers that are environmentally and socially responsible.

  • Creating and choosing products that have a long lifespan, are easily repairable and can be recycled at the end of their life.

  • Encouraging clients to use our products and services in a sustainable manner, providing them with the necessary information and support to do so.

  • Investing in the research and development of sustainable products.

We Promote Responsible Travel

Passenger cars are by far the biggest source of transport emissions in the UK. In 2022, the average diesel car averaged roughly Co2e per km.

Therefore, a 10-mile journey in the average diesel car produces roughly 2,732.80 Co2e

(Co2e is a measurement of the global warming potential, combining all greenhouse gases)

  • The Quintessence team all work from their homes, eliminating the need to travel to an office regularly. When travelling is needed for meetings and installs, train travel is encouraged. Quintessence employees are also encouraged to share car journeys where possible.

  • We invest in the research and development of virtual sales, marketing and events products that help clients and their customers reduce the need to travel.
